2024 | Longlist + Shortlist | Exploration

Preferred Pronoun?
She/her

Why did you choose to enter this work?
This was my favorite project of the year and I felt that it was a good representation of my work and style as an artist.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I love the way the textures came out with my use of mediums.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I'm excited to see what is next, and to feel like I'm part of the professional world as an artist!

Where do you usually work?
I work out of my apartment where I have a small office/studio set up in my living room. I have a beautiful view of the Colorado skies and love to work with the windows open in the spring and summer.

How long did it take to complete your project?
This illustration took maybe a total of 25 hours with planning and execution. I like to spend a lot of time on reference poses while planning out figures and expressions.

What is your dream commission?
My dream would to be commissioned for a book cover illustration for one of my favorite authors, such as Stephen King, VE Schwab, or Brandon Sanderson.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I love to draw people. There's something about the expressiveness in a face or in hands that really speaks to me.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Keep learning, keep trying new things, even if you never show anyone the work that comes from experimenting. It's a wonderful way to stretch your style and see what works.

What are your plans for the future?
I am currently interning in the art department at a publishing house, and the future is uncertain! I hope to be working in publishing and as a professional illustrator.
