2023 | Longlist + Shortlist | Exploration

Preferred Pronoun?
He/Him

Why did you choose to enter this work?
I feel like this series represents the exploration that's helped me find my voice as an illustrator. I'm very excited by the way I've found to synthesize space, colors, and characters together.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
There is an underlying tone of intimacy, nostalgia, and beauty in these images that I have not been able to capture this way before. I'm thrilled to continue exploring this in my future client work!

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I'm honored to be featured alongside such incredible artists and members of our community---it's truly humbling!

Where do you usually work?
These days, I'm usually working from my home-studio in Brooklyn. Earlier this year though, I ran a small, co-working group for illustrators that would meet to work in public libraries and cafes.

How long did it take to complete your project?
This series took around 2 weeks to complete.

What is your dream commission?
I'd love to make a cover for The New Yorker someday. Especially after making this series, I feel like that would be an amazing way to immortalize my love for NYC.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I really like drawing concert venues, subway stations, and nightclubs. I love how light in these places bounces off of people and space in such interesting ways!

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Make that project you're aching to make.

What are your plans for the future?
I'd love to continue illustrating for as long as I can. There are so many types of projects I dream of working on, but most recently I've been excited about exploring book covers and editorial.
