2023 | Highly Commended + Longlist + Shortlist | Exploration

Preferred Pronoun?
She/hers

Why did you choose to enter this work?
I chose this project because, being from an experimental nature, it has meant a watershed in my artistic work, both thematically and technically. I want to continue trying similar things.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
The theme, the idea of home and questioning what that means has been recurrent in my work lately, due to a drastic change of space and environment. This piece means the start of this exploration.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
The opportunity of being part of a community and work catalogue with this kind of recognition and being able to connect with colleagues internationally.

Where do you usually work?
Lately anywhere with a table big enough to spread out. I have been working in several spaces: in my current apartment, school studio space, my parents dinner table, some coffee shops, libraries, etc.

How long did it take to complete your project?
This was a two week long project, the testing phase lasted about a week and I used the second week to make as many variations as I could, I was having so much fun that I lost sense of time.

What is your dream commission?
I have too many, I wish I could participate in a storytelling project, create my own children's books. In addition, I have worked for cultural institutions and I always enjoy doing it.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I draw characters obsessively, especially girls. I also love drawing nature elements, such as animals and flowers.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Follow your intuition. Illustration is not and exact discipline, so there's no one right answer. Also, play as much as you can.

What are your plans for the future?
I want to keep creating a practice based on processes, learning and experimenting with different tecniques. Also, I want to develop more personal projects and collaborate with studios I admire.
