Stephanie Jade
Between The Pages

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
I wanted to create an illustrated narrative that explored the themes of nostalgia, childhood holidays, and grandparent relationships in a way that would resonate with every reader, all through the pages of an old photo album. The narrative is based on my childhood memories spent with my dear Nan at her home on the coast of Spain, and is a bittersweet homage to her.

How was the illustration used:
These illustrations are selected page layouts from the illustrated artists book I created for my Final Major Project at University. Each layout was compiled to add depth to the narrative and assist in the visual storytelling. The composition of each page in relation to the text was a key element in my design process to effectively provide snapshots into the narrator’s memories.

How did you make this work:
The concept for each illustration was created using old pictures from my family photo albums, and individual memories that I had of each location. The illustrations were produced through a process of high quality scanning, restoration, and editing of the images to bring out the fine details and colours, and then illustrated digitally. The page layout was first sketched, then assembled digitally.
