Why did you make this work:
This series of illustrations is created for a collection of short stories about nine authors and cats. I once had a cat called Mifei. I still love him and always miss him. When conceiving these illustrations, I could not help but think of him. So I combined the sensations I felt from this book, and the memories of Mifei into these works, hoping to convey the same warmth and emotion to the readers.

How was the illustration used:
A collection of Japanese short stories "Nine stories of cats"

How did you make this work:
I chose woodcut prints to present the atmosphere of comics during the Showa period. Since the ability of words is limited, I want to fill the gap between text and vision through such a design.

Biography:
Xiaoying Liu is an illustrator and editor-in-chief of an illustration studio called "Huayansuo". She studied oil painting since childhood and had worked as a fashion editor for 12 years. Then she went to Tokyo to learn illustration. Rich experience gives her huge creative possibilities in painting. Now her creations involve illustrations, comics, picture books and IP images.
