Badger's Journey Through the Seasons

Children's Publishing

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
This a pop-out book which follows the journey of a badger exploring a woodland environment though the seasons. Each of the four spreads represents a different season, demonstrated through the colour scheme and the changes in the growth cycle. It is designed to be read like a book, but the carousel format also allows it to extend to 360 degrees so all of the seasons can be viewed at once.

How was the illustration used:
This is a portfolio piece designed to allow me to explore different books structures and experiment with paper engineering.

How did you make this work:
The original illustrations are made using paper-cut and collage, with details added in coloured pencils. The illustrations were digitally printed and each section cut out by hand before assembly. Each season is assembled in three layers of paper to create a sense of depth like a stage set. The hardback covers can be tied when closed or when the book is open to 360 degrees.
