Why did you make this work:
In Asia, 2019 is the year of the pig. I illustrate and design two types of new year postcards to response this Chinese Zodiac. Instead of drawing an entire pig figure, I choose to design compositions which express a sense of humor. For example, the idea of the horizontal skin-colored card shows the interplay between a pig nose and two standing birds which form the number of "19".

How did you make this work:
Besides CMYK printing, I especially use screen printing in order to apply white ink. It's not an easy task because I need to print two to three times to assure that white color can cover all the other ink. The other difficulty falls on a flock of flying white birds(seeing the vertical card); I test several different screens in order to reach a perfect balance between the black dots and white ink.

Biography:
Shih-Hsien, an illustrator based in Taipei Taiwan, portrays narratives that communicate his sincere thoughts and emotions, using the universal language of illustration. After graduating from Royal College of Art and being the New Talent Winner of the World Illustration Awards 2018 Books Category, he plans to develop a professional illustration career whilst staying true to his original ideas.
