The work was commissioned for a profile of Issaias Afwerki, the current president of Eritrea, in The Economist’s 1843 magazine.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
Guided by instinct, she mixes classical with commercial or quotidian imagery, with the intent of creating provocative juxtapositions to explore concepts of power, femininity, and mystery.

How were your illustrations used:
Deborah provided several illustrations to 1843 magazine for the article that appeared alongside the text.
