  • Why did you create this work?
    Illustration inspired by the article “Growing a Garden of Neurons” published by Frontiers in Neuroinformatics. The article explores the role of computational models of biologically realistic neuronal networks in advancing neuroscience. The concept is of a botanical garden with white matter fibers (based on 3D DSI scans) in the center with neurons throughout the architecture of the garden.

    Rio (Rioka) Hayama is a scientific illustrator based in New York and originally from Tokyo. They are (for now) studying at the Rochester Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in medical illustration.
