The Precious Poop

A fiction children’s book about poop, beetles, and economics.

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I started this project as a way to experiment with writing. It ended up being a silly, playful critique on the ever-present commodification of life. What happens when something financially worthless, but also fundamentally critical for the existence of an entire ecosystem, is forcibly captured and put up for profit? I found my answer, and then I just HAD to draw a few critters!

What materials and techniques did you use?:
Other than a lot of pencil sketches and notes, I made these illustrations entirely digitally, with tools that emulate the effect of gouache or acrylic painting together with thicker, softer types of pencils and pastels.

How were your illustrations used:
Book insides and cover.
