Startworks: Application now open

Every year, The Artworks illustration agency offers a few graduating Illustrators a unique opportunity to springboard into the heart of the industry.

The Startworks programme offers new graduates a year of intense mentoring, real-world briefs and jobs with some of the most recognisable brands. Completely free of charge, it’s designed with a view to signing the chosen Illustrator to the agency properly afterwards.

Last year’s winning applicant was Katie Thomas, an illustration graduate of Falmouth University. Katie reflects on her time on the programme through a new interview in The Artworks’ website:

“I think a hard adjustment after leaving university is losing your second opinion, maybe from a tutor or even just a peer. Suddenly you’re thrust into a solo practice where having that unbiased view may make or break a piece. This is where I think my style has benefitted from Startworks because I regained this fresh pair of eyes.

The mentorship scheme allowed Katie to expand her illustration portfolio and gain one her first commission with the Financial Times. Upon completing the program, Katie was offered to be fully represented by The Artworks.

How to apply:
Startworks is open to any Illustration student in their final year of University, BA or MA. Interested applicants should email 5 low-res images of their work, or a link to a social page showcasing their work to [email protected]. The Artworks will respond to those applicants they feel they can take further.

The deadline for applications is Friday 30th June.
