Varoom 36: Innovators Advertising

 

How does illustration capture the excitement of the Rugby World Cup? If you want colour and rhythm, then by commissioning Luke Choice aka Velvet Spectrum, that’s how.

Stuart Lang of We Launch selected Luke’s work for best work in advertising for the new Varoom, saying ‘Branding a major sporting event is both complex and multi-dimensional. Every part of the collateral has to be carefully defined to unite and inspire athletes, participants, supporters, sponsors, partners, and coaches.’

Luke told Varoom about his approach to the FCB New Zealand commission:
‘There is typically a lot of fancy dress associated with the event, so I found myself taking inspiration from the similarities between superhero outfits and rugby jerseys.’

‘I generally like to throw everything in together and then continue to arrange and rearrange until I feel the composition is working. I continue to refine down and tweak until there is a good harmony between the colours and elements.’
