Launched in May 2014 by a-n, the Paying Artists campaign is dedicated to ensuring that visual artists are paid for exhibiting work in publicly funded galleries, and to highlighting and raising awareness of the need for equality and diversity in the visual arts. Shaped by artists through a-n and its artist advisory council (AIR), the campaign is responding to the needs and aspirations of visual artists across the UK, and is successfully raising awareness of the issue of fair pay for visual artists in the UK and internationally.
