Why did you make this work:
The brief was to create an image of an impossible world, layered with magic and mystery, seamlessly weaving together the four realms of the exhibition: fairy tales, portals, quests, and the weird – each populated with myriad characters, ranging from the depths of hell right into cosmos. From Tolkien to Gaiman, and from Queen Mab to Baba Yaga, it’s packed with a hundred references to the genre.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
Drawing nib and ink on A1 Waterford rug paper

How were your illustrations used:
A poster and a cheat sheet of the characters in the image at the British Library shop
- a book cover of essays on fantasy
- billboards and bus stop advertising
- wall art inside British Library hall
- ticket and guide
- merch, from tote bags to cards and magnets
- all-night projection in the atrium during the opening night
- artwork included in the BL exhibition

Biography:
With a classic fairytale style, and a willingness to explore everything from medieval legend through to wild psychedelia, Sveta Dorosheva is the artist to turn to for beautiful, meticulous and ornamental illustration with a hint of magic about it, her work is imbued with the hand of the artist and everything is done by hand using traditional materials.
