Sonnie Kozlover
Still In Bed

Exploration

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I challenged myself to create a sense of intimacy and mood between two characters using geometric gestures, skewed perspective, and depictions of objects in space. While conceptualizing this piece, I asked myself: how can illustration could elongate a moment in time?

How was the illustration used:
This illustration was used as a portfolio piece. I typically concentrate solely on drawing figurative characters—I wanted to demonstrate my capability to execute elements of atmosphere and objects in space that amplify the intimacy of the figures depicted.

How did you make this work:
“Still In Bed” began as a pencil sketch of two figures intertwined on a mattress. I scanned this drawing into the computer and used digital illustration to expand their world. The final piece was executed in Adobe Photoshop using Kyle’s digital brushes and various scanned paper textures.
