Why did you make this work:
The brief was to make 4 illustrations for cosmetics gift set packages for Christmas season, without obvious links to Christmas. The idea on these illustrations was to present the most impressive phenomena of the arctic light: The golden hour, dusk of the evening, the blue hour, and northern lights.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
Aquarel and digital collage (Photoshop). Some details in the final packages were highlighted in transparent hologram foiling and matte varnish with pearlescent pigment. These finishes were used to complement the feeling of arctic light.

How were your illustrations used:
Illustrations were used on the cover and sides of each of the four gift set packages.

Biography:
Satu Kettunen is a Finnish illustrator, surface designer and children’s book author living in Helsinki. She has a background in fashion design and art education, but mostly she has always loved to invent stories. Over the years, Satu’s customers have included Finnish newspapers, magazines, companies & organisations. She has illustrated 8 picture books and written 3 of them herself.
