Paul Sirand
L'Odyssée Fantastique

Animation

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
After five years of refurbishing, the iconic Carlton Cannes reopens, unveiling a poetic positioning.
How to amaze and illustrate how precious moments are magnified in such a place?
I took the concept of a weightlessness and airy reunion.
Ships are sailing to the Carlton. Sails become wings in the sun, and the dimension of luxury and dream is highlighted by lightness and plenitude.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
It was quite a challenge as it was my first animation piece. I illustrated and animated.
I’ve used the traditional ‘celluloid animation’ technique, where most of the action is drawn frame by frame.
For example, the seagull take off at the very beginning is composed of almost 40 drawings.
It’s a mixed techniques using pencil, paper, procreate dreams and a proper focus on sounds effects.

How were your illustrations used:
This Animation is the winter campaign as well as the signature of the new illustrative positioning of the Carlton.
It has been used on all the comms material, sent to the press and posted on socials.
Also, some variations and extensions of the universe have been drawn and released.

Biography:
Paul Sirand is a French Illustrator, based in Paris. He’s inspired by his dogs and nature, and the tailored, well thought out look of uniforms, which he says are only legitimate in large numbers! Paul’s inspired by the way uniforms make a team look like a brand in itself.   Paul wishes to project an atmosphere with his work and thinks that a good image should be enough to tell a good story.
