Why did you make this work:
This is an illustration of solidarity with the Palestinian people I created in late November 2023 while Israel was bombing the strip of Gaza. I was horrified and compelled to show my support to Palestine asking for and immediate ceasefire. I wanted to represent a broken watermelon as this stands as a symbol for the Palestinian flag.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
Digital illustraion, Procreate.

How were your illustrations used:
I published this on my instagram account and this produced an intense discussion over this genocide with different point of views. I'm planning on printing and selling this illustration using the proceeds to support the victims of the conflict

Biography:
Matteo Berton is an italian illustrator living in Bologna. He has worked on children's books, comics, editorial and advertising illustration. His research focuses on a strong use of composition, geometric shapes and saturated color palettes. His clients include the New York Times and New Yorker, ESA, Sony and LVMH. He has been awarded with the gold and silver medal by the Society of Illustrators.
