Masha Gerzon
Dancing Visitors In My Boudoir

Site Specific

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
The project is an illustrator's interiors fantasy, which came to me during lockdown. As I was cooped up during COVID 19, the characters from my illustrations began creeping onto the walls on my room. While I was their original creator, it seems they now are detached from me, and lead their own separate lives on the walls of my room.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
A mixture of materials was used, mostly wall emulsion paint, acrylic and acrylic ink. While I started off using wall emulsion paint only, I enjoyed trying out different materials, deciding eventually not to set any boundaries despite the works being painted onto a wall.

How were your illustrations used:
The illustrations were used as frescoes and part of the interior design of the room. Many of the characters in the frescos also appear in my architectural illustrations, where they inhabit some of the imaginary buildings I designed, such as Rome's Roaming Theatre - a theatre that travels around the City of Rome filled with actors and creatures that run its mysterious and magical performances.
