Why did you make this work:
These illustrations were created for a picture book I’ve written called The Space Between. It’s the story of two young boys and their love of exploring the stars, and what happens when the distance between them grows too great. The story takes place in rural Australia and I wanted to contrast the dry landscape with the vastness of unexplored space.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
I combined traditional watercolour with digital techniques including using Procreate on an iPad.

How were your illustrations used:
The illustrations were used throughout a 32 page picture book.

Jess McGeachin is an author and illustrator living in Narrm (Melbourne, Australia). He has had ten fiction and non-fiction books published locally and internationally, with more on the way.He loves telling stories about hidden places, like the underground world beneath your feet or a secret library waiting to be found. Jess draws quite literally from a day job at a museum.
