  • Why did you create this work?
Dune: Messiah is the second book in one of the most important sci-fi series of the 20th century. Rife with political intrigue, intricate world-building, and vivid characters, the novel exposes the danger inherent in charismatic leaders. The Folio Society commissioned me to illustrate a faithful-yet-singular vision of this novel’s oft-depicted world.
  • How were your illustrations used?
The scope included a cover in black ink with gold foil, a single-ink slipcase, 8 color interiors, and 10 monochrome chapter headings.
  • What materials and techniques did you use?
The color interiors and cover are primarily painted in oils, while the black and white chapter headings are charcoal and ink. I then made revisions and added finishing touches digitally.
