She - Why did you create this work?
This image is inspired by a quote from Walt Whitman’s poem, 'Song of Myself, 51'. It is a celebration of all the contradictions that coexist in a single individual. If you zoom in, the only thing you can see is a chaotic mix of colors and textures. But then, zooming out, you realize all these fragments are in perfect balance with each other and that each contribute to creating the central figure. - How were your illustrations used?
This illustration was used by Forbes to promote their Forbes Women's Summit 2023 in various print and digital materials including magazine advertisements, banners, badges, website and other digital communication formats. I designed this image a few months after having my first child, it is therefore overflowing with vulnerability and honesty. - What materials and techniques did you use?
As an illustrator I work with digital collage, creating all my work in Photoshop. I use different kinds of source materials in my collage, from digital images to scans of print materials including old photographs, maps, sketches, printing mistakes and so on. No AI was used to create this image, just a lot of patience and experimentation. - Was this project commissioned?
