Why did you make this work:
I made this illustration of my college professor James and his wife. Their department commissioned this illustration for a zine celebrating their retirements.

How was the illustration used:
The department office made a zine and the illustration was on a full single page.

How did you make this work:
The reference photo was not in good quality, and they stood in front of a statue. James and his wife love nature. They have been together all the time. I thought they are going to enjoy the retired life, so I decided to make a romantic sunset scene with flowers and plants. I did a sketch on paper to figure out the composition, then used procreate to finish the lines and colors.

Cadie Can Long is a freelance illustrator and fine artist based in Los Angeles. She grew up in China, studied Film as an undergraduate, and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting (2018).Through her art, Cadie explores Nature, mythology, life, and the human psyche. She specializes in using digital applications, watercolor, gouache, graphite, and ballpoint pen to create illustrations, paintings, drawings, and doodles.Cadie illustrates for magazines, advertisements, merchandise, and online platforms. She also creates fine art pieces for gallery exhibitions.
