The World Illustration Awards are presented annually by the Association of Illustrators in partnership with the USA-based Directory of Illustration to support, promote and celebrate contemporary illustration being made today across the globe.

We work with national and international venue partners to host the World Illustration Awards Touring Exhibition.

What does the WIA2023 Tour consist of?

This inspiring, thought-provoking exhibition showcases all Award-Winning and Highly-Commended projects across ten industry-relevant categories and includes material that tells the story of the ideas, processes and artists behind the work.

We are looking for venue partners to host the WIA2024 and WIA2025 Touring Exhibitions, a fascinating, inspiring survey of the breadth and diversity of current global illustration practice chosen from over 5,000 submissions received from 82 countries.

WIA2023
Exhibition

The WIA2023 Touring exhibition was on display at three UK venues this spring, and will be shown at a range of venues in China this summer. The final exhibition will be shown at the University of Lancashire from 7th October to 4th November 2024.

WIA2023 was on display at the  The University of Hertfordshire from February to April 2024

WIA2023 was also at the London Book Fair, March 2024

From March to April 2024 the WIA2023 Touring Exhibition was on display at The University of Plymouth

Exhibition

The WIA2022 Touring exhibition was on display in Shenzhen, Nanchang, Ningbo, and Fuzhou in China (pictured), in partnership with the Shenzhen Illustration Association, as well as in Roe Valley in Northern Ireland.

Wia2021
Exhibition

The WIA2021 Exhibition was displayed at the Old Big School Gallery, Tonbridge, UK, (pictured), and went on to go on to tour China in partnership with the Shenzhen Illustration Association: Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Zhuha.

Exhibition

The WIA2020 Exhibition was displayed in Shenzhen and Shanghai, China in partnership with the Shenzhen Illustration Association.

AWARDS

The World Illustration Awards is a global celebration of illustration.

The Association of Illustrators has run a juried illustration competition since 1976. The latest incarnation, the World Illustration Awards in partnership with the Directory of Illustration, has been going strong and growing since 2015.

WIA focuses on supporting and celebrating creativity internationally, by connecting illustrators with their peers and the global illustration industry. 

The Awards are split into two groups: New Talent and Professional. All work, commissioned or self-initiated, is accepted across the ten categories as long as it has been created within the past year before the Call for Entries closes.
