In today?s world, the line between illustration and animation is becoming increasingly interlinked. This resource is intended for anyone working on animation projects or if you are an illustration led animator. We cover the key issues that need to be addressed in any animation contract and explain what differentiates animation contracts from illustration contracts. The one similarity that runs through both illustration and animation contracts is that your intellectual property rights are key.
Type of Animation
The first important point to cover in the animation contract will be the type of animation that is being commissioned. For example, will the animation be 2D or 3D?
It should be explicitly clear from the outset what you are being commissioned to create so that there is no room for confusion during the creation of the work or down the line. As such, you should define the commissioned work in detail, including any technical specifications, the length of the animation and a brief synopsis of what the animation will include.
