Why did you choose to enter this work?
I aim to expose the harm of obedience education on children to a wider audience, utilizing the power of picture books as my medium of choice.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I highlighted the emperor's oppression by enlarging specific body parts, creating an intimidating effect, while fragmented imagery symbolized a fearful child avoiding eye contact with angry parents.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I am incredibly grateful for the judges' recognition, as it serves as a tremendous source of inspiration for me to delve deeper into creating more imaginative illustrations.
Where do you usually work?
A desk is all I need. I'm always on the move, without a fixed long-term residence, but as long as I have my ipad and my usual painting materials close by, I can start working anytime.
How long did it take to complete your project?
Nearly 6 months. While creating this picture book, I am also working on another personal animation short film, and I spend a lot of time on these two projects every day.
What is your dream commission?
Fairy tale or folk tale, or any fantastic fantacy. My passion lies in creating illustrations that evoke feelings of joy and warmth, capturing everything that can make readers happy.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Poetic scenery and interesting characters.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Persistence is a key to guide you through the challenging phases of a lengthy career, particularly when pursuing what you genuinely love or focusing on a specific subject matter.

Continue to create imaginative work as a professional illustrator!
