Preferred Pronoun?
She/Her
Why did you choose to enter this work?
These are relevant to recent events in the US, as well as my personal life. I'm an art teacher, and have participated in many active shooter drills. Then I'm a woman who lost rights.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I'm proud of how you can truly feel the emotion in both. It may be moody, and dark. However, there is no denying that when you look at it you FEEL something. Fear, sadness, anger, pit in your stomach?
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I'm so excited to get the chance to meet other artists and receive possible opportunities to network. The thought that this may contribute to the next step in my illustration career is exciting too.
Where do you usually work?
Usually I'm working on my i pad, laptop, or starting my preliminary work for each project within a sketchbook. I'm sitting at my drawing desk often, but you might find me in random places at home too.
How long did it take to complete your project?
Nineteen minutes definitely took longer than usual work to complete. There's more faces/expressions, and needed to cultivate a specific environment. Roe Vs Wade went fast since I felt so much emotion.
What is your dream commission?
Probably to create cover art (or spot illustrations) for fiction books (YA novels would be a lot of fun), or getting to illustrate editorial stories and commentary on events/topics around the world.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I truly enjoy drawing people. I love the curves and edges that come with drawing a person. I enjoy bringing something to life with expression and character. Symbolism is a lot of fun to implement too
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
I'm still in the beginning of my career, and I'm still learning about the process. Art can be in your life in many different ways. Find at least one, and use it to grow. It's all just trial and error.
What are your plans for the future?
I will be teaching art as well as still creating my own. I plan to keep searching for opportunities and keep loving what I chose to do with my life. Creating crystalized life in the form of art.
