2023 | Longlist + Shortlist | Editorial

Why did you choose to enter this work?
Two topics that I am always interested in are relationship and health. I have read an article about 'How to Help a Partner Living With Depression,' which could resonate with my previous experiences.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I wanted to create a subtle yet strong illustration that makes people think about the message. What I like about this project is that I took a conceptual approach, which worked well.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
One thing that excites me the most is connecting with other amazing shortlisted illustrators and having my project out there.

Where do you usually work?
I usually work at my flat or the printmaking studio and sometimes co-work with my friends at coffee shops around London. I recently got an art studio, which I will share with other creatives.

How long did it take to complete your project?
It took me a few days to complete this piece, as I had many different approaches until I finally settled on this idea.

What is your dream commission?
My dream commission would be editorial or children's picture book projects related to our society, promoting diversity and inclusivity. Also would love to work on more non-fiction picture books!

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
People!

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
It took me a long time to figure out who I am as an illustrator and what I am passionate about. Everything you experience, even the things that seem painful or useless, will help you in someways.

What are your plans for the future?
I would love to develop my printmaking skills further and explore new techniques to adopt into my editorial and children's picturebook illustrations.
