- Biography
I am a Cambridge based illustrator and printmaker. I was born and raised in Kyushu, in the southwest of Japan, in an environment which was close to nature and to animals - both of which have had a major influence on me.
I had a love of speed and riding motor bikes on the one hand, and drawing and painting on the other. My formal studies focused on dress design and interior design.
However, these pursuits were put on hold while raising a family and moving to different countries – a valuable experience because I have had encounters with the different art forms from many cultural backgrounds.
When I started to study at Cambridge School of Art, I felt that I came back onto my creativity track.
I am passionate about organisms, especially animals and birds. I combine traditional methods such as Japanese wood engraving and Sumi-ink painting with the contemporary perspective of printmaking and digital methods to create mixed organic-technological hybrids. - Where did you hear about the competition?
