Why did you choose to enter this work?
I had been experimenting with stop-motion, cut-out animation which I really enjoyed making and when I saw there was an animation category in this years awards, it seemed the obvious thing to do.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I love the fact that it is all shot on my phone, using this fantastic app StopMotion, including doing the sound and editing. Also that its all made from recycled stuff and leaves etc from the garden.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I absolutely loved the simplicity in making this small handmade film and of it's great to get some recognition for something that you have been so excited to create.
Where do you usually work?
I have a studio at home. I set up on my old 2D animation desk and I have a desk for my computer. It can get rather disorganised with bags of recycled packaging and piles of books all over the floor.
How long did it take to complete your project?
The idea had been brewing for quite a while as it had started as a children's book project. But once I had decided to make a small film it took the best part of a week to prep and shoot.
What is your dream commission?
I would love to make an animated series for children's TV.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I absolutely love drawing trees. Different shapes, colours and sizes.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
To have fun and do what you love and not to second guess what someone else wants.
What are your plans for the future?
I'm working on a few book projects but to make more films and to take this film further into the story.
