What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I love to hide little references or funny things in book illustrations, so those are by far my favourite bits. it makes me incredibly happy anytime somebody actually catches one of these Easter eggs.
Where do you usually work?
Since I live/work in two different cities in Belgium I commute a lot. So I work mostly on my laptop at home or on the train, the perfect place to close myself off and really concentrate.
How long did it take to complete your project?
When I was working on the book I still had another job next to illustration. So it took me quite long, I worked on it on and off for about a year and a half.
What is your dream commission?
I care a lot about our environment and would love to make illustrations for a brand or campaign that focusses on sustainability and nature. After that, every project that encourages children to read!
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Definitely humans! I always loved drawing anatomy and now I enjoy playing around with the shapes of the body, making parts bigger or much rounder.
What are your plans for the future?
I'm currently working on my second book, I've written the story for this in French which is quite a challenge. Next to that I'm working on designs for cards, posters and patterns to license.
