Why did you choose to enter this work?
Gravity is a hilarious day-gone-wrong story with a scientific twist. The running gag is while Leda complains of gravity, the reader can clearly see it's her own clumsiness causing her falls.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
Figuring out how to represent gravity in a visually interesting and legible way was the biggest challenge for this book, and one I manage to find the solution for!
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
Not only is the recognition an absolute honour, it also allows a wider audience to see this book along with many other amazing projects.
Where do you usually work?
I'm currently using my parents' living room as my studio. I have two tables, one doing analogue painting, another with my computer setup for the digital work.
How long did it take to complete your project?
It took me about a year to complete this project. Being one of the first fictional picture book I've illustrated, it was a definitely a challenge in the sketching stage.
What is your dream commission?
I would love to utilize this style in other applications, especially a holiday themed commision!
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I love drawing plants, towns, and people interacting.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
be true to your voice! Be the best version of your own style rather than a copy of someone else's.
What are your plans for the future?
Writing my own picture book is the next big step!
