The World Illustration Awards 2023 Longlist features 500 projects by New Talent and Professional illustrators from all over the world across ten categories. This year, the awards celebrate great illustration!

Prang Vipaluk
centralwOrld Blooming Summer 2022
Professional
This installation reimagines centralwOrld shopping complex as a massive greenhouse where visitors can enter and experience the oversized, vibrant garden, formed by graphic shapes and elements, to heal and refresh themselves. The main attraction is “The Hanging Garden” in Central Court, where visitors can enjoy the garden from any perspective.
Prang Vipaluk is a Bangkok-based visual communication designer who primarily works in graphic design and illustration.
Mel Northover
Breaking the News
Professional
This project was created for the exhibition Breaking the News at the British Library. The artist created an engaging artwork that takes the viewer on a journey across time, encouraging them to explore the connections between encounters people have had with the news over the last 500 years, highlighting the comparisons and contrasts between those centuries apart.
Mel Northover is an artist, designer and director at Northover&Brown, a multidisciplinary creative agency based in London specialising in visual communication.
Aleksandra Czudżak
Mural in Orientarium
Professional
This mural was created in the newly opened Orientarium, building located in Łódź Zoo. The artwork depicts animals you can find there. The artist made the mural elaborate, and full of detail. Fur, scales and feathers were her big inspiration.
Aleksandra Czudżak is based in Poland. She studied in the Graphics Department at Eugeniusz Geppert’s Academy of Fine Arts and Design.
Zofia Chamienia
Community Growing
New Talent
This mural was painted in Fairmuir Park in Dundee, as part of the Harvest festival organised by the Fair Growing Green Community Unexpected Garden. The aim of the mural was to contribute to the local area, convey a positive message and encompass the themes: growing, biodiversity, food, and a diverse community.
Zofia Chamienia is a Polish illustrator based in Scotland, who specializes in bold, playful designs, full of incidental shapes, wobbly lines, and self-made textures.
Yuanyuan Liu
Mural at Camberwell
New Talent
The artist was commissioned to create this mural at the Camberwell College of Art, UAL. The mural shows all kinds of creative things happening in the art school—some people do art while some see artworks and get inspired. The background elements are inspired by London landmarks.
Yuanyuan Liu is a student learning illustration at Camberwell College of Arts.
Weston Wei
After the Applause
New Talent
This project is a series of illustrations created for After the Applause, a Re-TROS special concert at Mercedes-Benz Arena, Shanghai. Rebuilding The Rights Of Statues, better known as Re-TROS, were forerunners of the so-called China-rock explosion of the mid-2000s, where a raft of groups inspired by western post-punk rose to prominence. These illustrations insipred by Re-TROS’s song: Surrender.
Weston Wei is an illustrator based in New York and originally from China.
