Jenny Proudfoot
I’m illustrator based in Edinburgh, Scotland, who loves to dabble in ink, pencil and splashy watercolour. With swirly bits.
I studied Illustration & Media Design at Edinburgh’s Telford College, then worked as a graphic designer. In 2013 I returned to my first love, illustration, and now specialise in maps and projects in the heritage sector. I occasionally work with pencil but more often in hand-drawn ink, scanned and layered with watercolour.
My clients include National Museums Scotland, The Democratic Society, D.C. Thomson, Historic Environment Scotland, Haymarket Publishing, The University of Edinburgh and numerous design agencies.

I chose a memoir by David Attenborough, using a warm, limited palate and angular, sepia coloured line work to evoke the 1950s. The iconic figure of young Attenborough surveys an African landscape, surrounded by lush foliage and a few of the animals he encountered on his adventures around the world. View Folio

The illustrations show the three famous bridges crossing the River Forth, and the pretty towns on either shore. The illustration incorporates brand colours and symbols of pilgrimage, guiding walkers from the River Forth to St Andrews. Inspired by medieval texts, an illuminated border tells the story of the pilgrims who once travelled the path, marked by their distinctive hats, and badges collected at holy sites en route.i View Folio

The centre section shows pioneering Scottish environmentalists, Nan Shepherd, John Muir and James Hutton. The climate clock is set at just less than eight minutes to midnight, a minute for each year from the conference until the earth is expected to warm by 1.5 degrees. View Folio

Each year the illustration features the Scottish clarsach, pedal harp and Irish lap harp.
