Felicia Fortes

Felicia Fortes is an illustrator and artist based in Gothenburg, Sweden. She paints, illustrates, and writes from her studio on Ringön, an industrial and creative area in Gothenburg. Recognized for her editorial illustrations in Swedish newspapers and magazines like Dagens Nyheter, Göteborgs-Posten, Kommunalarbetaren, and Filter. She is also well known for her work for cultural clients like Göteborg Film Festival, The Museum of World Culture, and Nivalis Barokk. She is now looking forward to working for international clients.

Shortlisted for the 2021 World Illustration Awards and longlisted in the same competition in 2023.  Her wall paintings with girls tackling everyday relations can be enjoyed around Gothenburg.

She has inspired with her 100-day projects Imaginary Places and recently Fortes’ Fauna.

Client: The Museum of World Culture, Sweden.When doing this commission I got a lot of research material from the theme behind the exhibition and I complemented it with visual input from Mexican arts and crafts, both old and new.

In LIFE, you can see Quetzalcoatl, and Tezcatlipoca, two gods involved in Aztec creation myths. The pattern on her dress, as well as the plants and flowers in the background, are inspired by several textiles.

In DEATH, you can see Xolotl, and Huitzilopochtli, two gods involved in Aztec death and war myths. The pattern on the dress, as well as the plants and flowers in the background, are inspired by several textiles and Aztec codices.

Client: Göteborg Film Festival.Göteborg Film Festival wanted to celebrate the city of Gothenburg turning 400 years in 2023, so they invited all the citizens to pitch ideas for the short movie that introduces all screenings at the festival.

This illustration was made out of the Göteborg Film Festival dragon in combination with iconic places from the city of Gothenburg. It was used to represent the pitch campaign.
