Hello, I’m Elle!
she/her
I am a freelance illustrator living by the sea in windy Brighton.
I specialise in colourful and characterful digital illustrations, often with distinctive borders and patterns. My work mixes natural elements, feminist concepts and ecological concerns, with underlying mythological themes. I love to tell stories, and am particularly interested in how the use of decorative borders that both frame, and interact with the image can enhance the narrative experience.
Recently my first author/illustrator picturebook Too Small for Ball was long listed for the dPictus Picturebook Makers Unpublished Picturebook Showcase! I want nothing more than to be illustrating picturebooks, both my own and other authors, and this was hugely exciting.
Most of my work currently is digital, however my background is in fine art painting and I am increasingly returning to traditional mediums. For the group show Total Boardom last Sept I had great fun painting using gouache again, and am definitely going to be making more traditional work alongside my digital projects from now on.
