Words and Pictures – Children’s Picture Books Meet-up

Come and join us for an informal chat about the highs and lows of working within the picture book format. Book below or via our Eventbrite.

Hosted by Emily Haworth-Booth and Rachel Stubbs

This event welcomes illustrators at all stages of development – from those just starting out, graduates early in their career, more established illustrators and authors or anyone with a passion for picture books!

Come and join us for an informal chat about the highs and lows of working within the picture book format. We’ll be looking specifically at the relationship between text and image, and how to go about balancing the two.

Meet-up hosts Emily and Rachel will discuss their different approaches and run a short workshop for you to come up with your own sequence. We would love to use this as an opportunity to hear more from you – so there will be plenty of time for discussion and questions too!

Rachel and Emily met on the Cambridge MA in Children’s Book Illustration where they discovered they lived down the road from one another. Rachel published her first picture book ‘My Red Hat’ with Walker Books in 2020 and Emily has now published three titles for children with Pavilion Books ; ‘The King who Banned the Dark’, ‘The Last Tree’ and most recently ‘Protest – How people have come together to change the world’. Emily also teaches comics and graphic novels at the Royal Drawing School.
