Picture Books to Graphic Novels with Sophie Burrows

June 10 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Illustrator and author Sophie Burrows discusses picture books to graphic novels as part of our ongoing series of picture book meet-ups. Book below or via our Eventbrite.

Join picture book makers Birgitta Sif and David Barrow for an (online) evening with award winning illustrator and author Sophie Burrows as she talks with us about the creation of her graphic novels and picture books.

Sophie will share how working with comics has revolutionised her process, the art of communicating without words, and techniques she uses to generate ideas and get through creative block.

Sophie Burrows is an illustrator and writer from Sussex. Inspired by the everyday, she loves to tell stories which explore themes of human behaviour, mental health and relationships.

Sophie has 12 years experience as an illustrator in children’s markets, working across picture books, illustrated fiction and graphic novels. In 2019 she graduated from the MA in Children’s Book Illustration course at Cambridge School of Art, and subsequently won Student Illustrator of the Year 2019 at the V&A Illustration Awards. Her first picture book as author/illustrator, Ig Pig & Og Frog! was published in 2020, followed by her first non fiction book for 6-11 year olds, Weird Sea (2023). Her debut graphic novel, Crushing, was nominated for a prestigious Eisner Award in 2023.

Sophie will kindly be answering any questions you may have, as well as inviting you to share an interactive insight into her practice. Remember to bring along as much creativity as you can muster!

>>> Please note: All ticket buyers will be sent access, for a limited time, to a full visual and audio recording of the talk and Q&A, post event. <<<
