Le Salève, montagne des Carougeois ?! – Exhibition

Exhibitions

The Carouge Museum takes off and invites its public on an artistic and historical hike!

Geographically Savoyard, but emotionally close to us, the Salève dominates our vision and our imagination. Would we dare to suggest that the “mountain of the Genevois” is ultimately Carouge? This question is the basis of this exhibition, noting that the Sardinian city develops in the shelter of Mount Salève, under its protection and domination, daily catching the eye towards its summit.

This mountain has attracted many personalities and inspired artists and scientists over time. By exploring its history, we begin to forge inevitable relationships with the town of Carouge. Anecdotes, historical facts and unusual objects tell here the links which unite these two geographical places and which connect, like a subtle link, the Drize river. Paintings and engravings from the museum representing the Salevian motif support these facts.

Finally, contemporary interpretations, due to the imagination of artists from our region, an artistic installation by Pascale Favre and a participatory fresco by Panpan Cucul reveal the very strong attachment of the Carougeois to this “rocky whale” (Henri Tanner) and invite the public to continue the ride, higher up, whether on foot or using the newly renovated cable car.
