***Announcing Drawn In with special guest, Stanley Chow***

We’re excited to announce our next event on Wednesday 1st May at The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre in Chorlton, where we’ll be drawing in the good times with Manchester’s very own Stanley Chow.

Stanley is an internationally renowned illustrator, whose portraits of celebrities from the world of music, television, film and sport, grace the walls of living rooms, hallways and bedrooms across the world!

In 2008, Stanley’s work for The White Stripes was nominated for a Grammy Award, which opened the door for his work to be seen in the USA. Soon after, he received commissions from The Washington Post, Boston Globe, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine and The New Yorker magazine, where he still regularly contributes.

At this event, we’ll draw it in together in three parts…

Part one: after grabbing a drink from the bar, we’ll get started by checking out Stanley’s portraits at his lovely exhibition in the gallery.

Part two: next we’ll have some relaxed drawing fun. Inspired by Stanley’s work, we’ll draw portraits with shapes (please bring your own drawing materials and sketchbook).

Part three: we’ll gather around The Long Table, where conversation is the only course! Joined by Stanley, we’ll enjoy a full starter, main and dessert of conversation! Together, we’ll get stuck into discussing three topics around illustration.

The Long Table is an idea from the world of theatre and is a space for everyone’s voice to be equally heard either out loud or on paper – you can comment, draw and scribble ideas on the paper table cloth as the conversation flows.

The Edge bar will be open for drinks and refreshments throughout the night.

We hope you can join us – let’s draw it in together with Stan Chow!

More about Stanley Chow

Stanley Chow is an internationally renowned illustrator from Manchester with almost 30 years’ experience. His first published work was for the Oxford University Press in 1995, creating spot illustrations for school textbooks.

Throughout the late 90s and 00s Stanley would find himself working for various teen magazines, weekend supplements and fashion magazines as well as illustrating advertising storyboards for various brands. During this time he also moonlighted as a DJ, primarily in clubs in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. He also designed posters and flyers for the venues where he DJed at too.

In 2008, Stanley’s work he did for the band The White Stripes was nominated for a Grammy Award. This opened the door for his work to be seen in USA… soon after the nomination his illustrations started appearing in The Washington Post, Boston Globe, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine amongst other publications and The New Yorker magazine where he is still a regular contributor.

Stanley’s work is now quite ubiquitous in Manchester, having illustrated for Manchester United, Transport for Greater Manchester, Manchester’s Chinese New Year branding for the past decade and also Mayoral Campaigns for Andy Burnham.
