Drawing Diversity: Trans & Non-Binary Character Based Research

12th July 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Julian Gray will share an ongoing personal project of case studies on media representations of Trans communities and personalities. Book your ticket below or via our Eventbrite.

In our recent Diversity and Equality roundtable we understood that some illustrators would value a space to explore how to increase the diversity depicted in their practice. This session is the second of a short series to explore that.

Julian, in conversation with Montana Forbes, will discuss why he was compelled to research and redraw trans characters portrayed in the media. As greater awareness increases in society, he discusses the lack of clear centralised information about drawing trans and non-binary characters. He shares his process of engaging with trans communities and putting together a guide on how to create non offensive and stereotypical art.

The session will provide practical insights into community based research as a route to depicting diverse characters and will allow a space to respectfully discuss approaches to depicting diversity.

If you have any access requirements, please email [email protected]

Tickets will be limited to allow a discussion.
