Diversity in Illustrating Children’s Books

A webinar for illustrators

How can alternative, under-represented narratives, voices and images be introduced? What good examples can we share? And what can the various players in this field – authors, illustrators, publishers, libraries and readers – learn from each other? These are the questions this webinar in English will deal with. It includes three short presentations, a discussion between the participants as well as an image analysis of examples handed in.

The illustrators Jenny LucanderSanna Pelliccioni and Elina Warsta will examine the topic from their perspectives and will report about the ituation in Finland. The illustrators Warda Ahmed and Jasmina El Boumraoui (El Boum) will introduce the topic by providing examples of illustration and by an image analysis. The approach will take place in a constructive and encouraging way.

The participants can send in their own works which they would like to discuss during the image analysis until 8th of November to the following email address: [email protected]

The participation is free of charge. The webinar will take place on Zoom. Obligatory registration is open until the 10th of November.
