AOI Discusses: Balancing Parenthood and Creativity
Online Events, TalksAOI Discusses continues with the first session of 2025, on balancing parenthood and creativity.
Parenting and freelancing can be a rollercoaster. How do you carve out time to effectively manage these responsibilities and maintain a steady illustration career?
We invite two speakers to discuss the practical ways in which they balance parenting and freelance work. They will also reflect on how their experiences as parents have helped inspire diverse personal and commercial projects, as well as different ways of working.
Harriet Drewe is a London based freelance illustrator. Her illustration practice is deeply rooted in her love of hands-on craft and the childhood joy of creating stories from cardboard, paper, and marker pens. Using bold, fluid shapes, she brings playful, expressive characters to life, infusing her work with humour, warmth, and energy—even when tackling sensitive or complex subjects.
Carl Wilson is an illustrator and animator based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, producing artwork in a variety of different disciplines through commercial employment, personal projects & public exhibitions.
