AOI Discusses: Unlocking Commissions through Passion Projects
Online Events, TalksAOI Discusses continues this season with a session on maximising the potential of passion projects.
Focussing on and exploring self-initiated work is a great way to take your career into your own hands and steer it in the direction you want it to go. Instead of waiting for a client to commission you for your dream project, you can pre-emptively create this work yourself – this, in turn, can attract the attention and trust of clients, leading to commissions that you are excited about, and that feel authentic to you.
We invite our two speakers to discuss some of their own different passion projects, the ways in which they have put this work out there, and how these projects have helped land them client commissions.
David Huang is a Taiwanese American illustrator and Designer. He is known for his tactile and colorful illustrations, inviting his audiences into different worlds with each image. His illustration application range is diverse, going from editorial to web, menus to murals, and posters to packaging.
Kushiaania is a UK based freelance illustrator. With a background in fashion design and over eight years of industry experience, Kush transitioned into the world of illustration driven by an innate passion for visual storytelling. She explores illustration and design as a way to reflect and explore her British Asian heritage and upbringing, and what that meant for her identity and self expression growing up into early adulthood.
