AOI discusses is back this Spring!
Arts funding award opportunities for creatives to focus on their creative development and achieve success outside of client commissions, but how can you maximise your chances in your funding application(s)? Join us in this insightful online discussion with experienced creatives Annie McGee and Dr. Rachel Emily Taylor, on applying for arts funding as an illustrator.
Annie McGee is a British illustrator and creative force behind Northern Bird Designs. With a background in Archeology and Ancient History, her experience in visual storytelling has evolved to extend into children’s picture books, pattern design and heritage illustration. A previous AOI mentee in 2022, she’s currently undertaking the Pathways Into Publishing programme for underrepresented illustrators. In this discussion she’ll talk about her successful Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) grant awarded in 2023 to develop her picture book practice, touching on her unique perspective as a disabled illustrator and reflecting on the lessons learnt and applied towards achieving her successful application.
Dr. Rachel Emily Taylor is an illustrator, writer, and educator. She is the author of Illustration and Heritage (Bloomsbury, 2024), the Course Leader for BA Hons Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, and the host of Inside Illustration Podcast. In her practice, she makes illustrative works that involve mis- or under-represented people from history, with a particular interest in how the past can be reconstructed. She has received funding from Arts Council England to work with the Brontë Parsonage Museum, the Horniman Museum, and Bishops’ House Museum, and funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to work with the Foundling Museum and the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. Rachel will expand on some of these funding experiences throuhgout AOI Discussess.
