An online talk and Q&A with Children’s Book author/illustrator Daisy Hirst

Orange Beak Studio presents An Evening with Children’s Book Author / Illustrator Daisy Hirst

Daisy Hirst is from London and lives in Cambridge. She has wanted to write and illustrate picture books since before she could write. She studied English and Creative Writing at the University of Warwick, but never stopped reading picture books or doodling, and went on to study Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art, completing her MA in 2013.

Daisy is the author and illustrator of seven picturebooks, including The Girl with the Parrot on Her Head (an Ezra Jack Keats Honor Book in the US and shortlisted for the Klaus Flugge Prize) and three books about monster siblings Natalie and Alphonse, which between them have been translated into eleven languages, featured on CBeebies Bedtime Stories and shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards and Oscar’s Book Prize. Daisy’s latest picturebook, I Like Trains, is available now from Walker Books and her first board books, Monster Clothes and Monster Food will be published by Walker in October.

Most of Daisy’s books are illustrated with screenprints and her practice is still rooted in mindless doodling; she also makes prints, comics and greetings cards and runs workshops for adults and children.

Join us to hear Daisy talk about her career, process and inspirations. Daisy will talk about how she approaches writing stories and creating characters, and her favourite things to draw.

There will be a Q&A after Daisy’s talk.

ALSO! Daisy will lead a character based drawing activity so there is chance for you to make some drawings with Daisy on the night!

AND – you will receive an exclusive discount code to Daisy’s products at the SOMA Gallery.

The event will be held online via ZOOM – the link will be sent via email a few days before the event.

All tickets are £10 plus booking fee – and are non-refundable.
