- Why did you create this work?
This series of covers was commissioned by the Vintage Classics team at Penguin Random House, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Italian journalist and novelist Italo Calvino. Reissuing seven of Calvino's titles, Vintage Classics invited Thomas to inject a playful and contemporary voice to the books, and revitalise the cover art to appeal to today's readers. - How were your illustrations used?

Thomas Hayman lives and works in Paris. His work often shows landscapes with remarkable architectural buildings. From the USSR of 1970 to modern Colombia, from luxury villas to gas stations, Thomas interrogates these scenes in search of the actor. His images suggest a certain kind of nostalgia for a past with futuristic features, between dawn and dusk. - Where are you currently based?
