  • Why did you create this work?
Pondering the significance of one's hometown as time passes. Do they exist or are they a mirage? An illustrated zine, set in Sunshower City, Penang, Malaysia, centres on ordinary people who are seen in public spaces like kopitiam and ferry. The zine attempts to capture the absurdity of everyday life from the perspective of a tourist. Other than our nostalgic filters, what does "hometown" mean?
  • How were your illustrations used?
My illustrations served to translate forgotten local slang into visual form, capturing the daily mundane by experimenting with composition, Risograph printing, texture, and layout.
  • What materials and techniques did you use?
The zine was printed using the Risograph technique, with 6 Riso colours in total, and digital printing for attached accessories, self-bind with a treasury tag on the right, experimenting with layering, composition, colours and texture. All illustrations were drawn digitally using Pro-create and later layout with Adobe.
