Why did you make this work:
No one understands the notion of being alone together like apartment dwellers in the age of social distancing. Look inside any apartment building, and you’ll likely find people hidden away from the world, doing their chores, engaging in self-care getting lost in their own heads, with their windows serving as their one keyhole to the outside world. Commissioned by Tumblr for Mental Health Month.

How was the illustration used:
Tumblr used this illustration online as part of their Post It Forward campaign that ran during Mental Health Month 2020.

How did you make this work:
The drawings were done on an Ipad using Procreate. Ellis added (hand drawn and found) textures in Photoshop and animated the piece in After Effects.

Biography:
Ellis van der Does is a Dutch illustrator & animator based in Amsterdam. She completed her BA at the University Of The Arts in Utrecht and went on to study MA Graphic Design Communication at Chelsea College of Art and Design. If you take a trip to ‘illustration wonderland’ with Ellis D, you’ll enter a 2D graphic universe filled with different textures and popping colours.
