Culture shock represented by the two central ceramic heads. One of the pieces from a project I am currently working on called "Everything Works in America (with coffee from Brazil)", which explores the undeniable contrast I personally feel (coming from Brazil) from two very different consumer societies and their real issues. The donut and bananas are also ceramic pieces from this project.
How was the illustration used: Pieces are decorative, and will all be used in an upcoming exhibition. They are mainly to convey ideas and explore through the ceramics medium. The photograph with the pieces is mainly promotional for my work at this point. It is a creative process from having the idea, making it and then how to share it. Creative photographs are part of the whole idea when making 3D pieces.
How did you make this work: The heads, donut and bananas are all ceramic pieces. They were bisque fired first, and then coloured with underglaze, and then coated with clear glaze and put into the kiln again. One of the heads did not resist the heat and ended up with a predictable crack. I ended up liking the crack as it symbolises how experimental and unpredictable clay can be.

Biography:
Cecilia Abeid is a creator from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she graduated in Visual Communications Design at PUC-Rio. During this period she also studied Fine Arts in Paris for one year. She is currently pursuing her MFA in the Illustration as Visual Essay program at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her creative approach is always engaged to a challenge, evolving into a better self, creatively, technically and personally. Cecilia is a student at heart, forever looking at lessons life may give her, and understanding herself to do better and dream further every step of the way.
